Talking About "The Giver" by Lois Lowry 본문
Dialogue:
Jaegyum: Hey Jaeyi, have you finished reading "The Giver" yet? It was so weird!
Jaei: Yeah, I just finished it. Weird is definitely one word for it! All that talk about Sameness... no choices, no colors... it sounds so boring.
Jaegyum: I know! Can you imagine not being able to choose what clothes to wear or what games to play? And not even seeing colors! What was red like before Jonas saw it?
Jaei: The book said it was like seeing gray, but a different shade. It's hard to even imagine. But what I thought was really strange was how they didn't know about grandparents or families like we have.
Jaegyum: That's right! And the Ceremony of Twelve... getting assigned your job for the rest of your life. I'm glad we get to try different things and decide what we want to be when we grow up.
Jaei: Me too! But I felt bad for Jonas, having to keep all those memories a secret and feeling all that pain. And the release... that was really confusing.
Jaegyum: Yeah, what do you think really happened when someone was released? Do you think they went somewhere else?
Jaei: I don't know. The book didn't really say. But I hope Jonas and Gabriel made it to Elsewhere. It sounded like a much better place.
Jaegyum: Me too. It made me think about how important it is to have feelings, even the sad ones, and to be able to make our own choices.
Jaei: Definitely. "The Giver" was a strange story, but it made me think a lot.
